CLF-C02 Practice Test

Preparing for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam is easier when you combine simple lessons with realistic CLF-C02 practice questions. This page explains the exam format, current domains, essential AWS services, pricing concepts, study methods, and online testing options in student-friendly language. You can also Browse all supported certification vendors when you want to explore practice tests for AWS or another certification provider.

What Is a CLF-C02 Practice Test?

A CLF-C02 practice test is a set of exam-style questions designed to prepare you for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. It tests your foundational understanding of cloud computing, AWS security, common AWS services, pricing, billing, and support.

The official AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner page describes this certification as validation of a high-level understanding of AWS Cloud, its services, and its terminology. It is a suitable starting point for people with no previous IT or cloud experience, as well as business professionals who work with technical teams.

A useful practice test should not expect you to configure complex networks or write code. Instead, it should ask clear scenario questions. For example, it might ask which AWS service provides object storage, which party patches the operating system on an Amazon EC2 instance, or which cost tool estimates the price of a planned workload.

Who Should Take the CLF-C02 Exam?

CLF-C02 is intended for people who want broad AWS Cloud knowledge without being tied to a specific technical job. It may be appropriate for:

  • Students beginning a cloud-computing journey
  • People changing from a non-IT career into technology
  • Entry-level IT professionals
  • Sales and marketing professionals who work with AWS customers
  • Project and product managers
  • Finance, procurement, or operations staff involved in cloud decisions
  • Managers who need to communicate with cloud teams
  • Candidates planning to pursue an Associate-level AWS certification later

AWS says the target candidate may have up to six months of exposure to AWS Cloud design, implementation, or operations, but experience is not required. There is also no required course or earlier certification.

The exam guide places coding, architecture design, troubleshooting, implementation, and load or performance testing outside the target role. You should know what common services do and why an organization might choose them, but you do not need deep configuration skills.

After Cloud Practitioner, common next steps include AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Certified Developer – Associate, or an operations-focused Associate exam. You can See all AWS exam preparation resources to compare paths and choose a certification that matches your goals.

Why Use a CLF-C02 Practice Test?

CLF-C02 is beginner-friendly, but it still covers many services and terms. Practice questions help you connect those terms to practical situations.

Identify topics that need more study

Begin with a short diagnostic test. Review the result by domain instead of focusing only on the total percentage. If most mistakes are in Security and Compliance, study the shared responsibility model, IAM, encryption, and governance. If Cloud Technology and Services is weak, review the purpose of core compute, database, networking, and storage services.

Learn the style of AWS questions

Several answer options may sound related to the scenario. The correct choice best meets the requirement. Look for phrases such as:

  • Most cost-effective
  • Minimum management effort
  • Highly available
  • Global reach
  • Least-privilege access
  • Estimate future costs
  • Review historical spending
  • Protect against distributed denial-of-service attacks

These details guide the answer. For example, AWS Pricing Calculator estimates the cost of a planned workload, while AWS Cost Explorer helps analyze existing costs and usage.

Practice multiple-response questions

The exam contains two question formats:

  • Multiple choice: One correct answer and three incorrect options.
  • Multiple response: Two or more correct answers from five or more options.

For multiple-response questions, evaluate each option separately. Do not stop after finding one correct statement. The question tells you how many answers to select.

Improve time management

With 65 questions in 90 minutes, you have an average of about 83 seconds per question. Some direct questions take only a few seconds, giving you more time for longer scenarios. Timed practice tests help you learn when to answer, when to flag a question, and when to move on.

Learn from every mistake

For each incorrect or guessed answer, record:

  • The domain and topic
  • The important word you missed
  • Why your selected option was unsuitable
  • Why the correct option fits
  • A short comparison you can remember

This creates a personal revision list based on your real needs.

CLF-C02 Exam Domains and Topics

AWS uses compensatory scoring, so candidates pass based on their total performance rather than passing each domain separately. However, the weights show how much scored content comes from each area. Study all four domains and spend extra time on Security and Compliance and Cloud Technology and Services.

Domain 1: Cloud Concepts — 24%

The official Cloud Concepts domain covers cloud benefits, design principles, migration, and cloud economics.

Benefits of the AWS Cloud

Understand the value organizations can gain from cloud computing:

  • Agility: Teams can create resources quickly and experiment faster.
  • Elasticity: Capacity can grow or shrink as demand changes.
  • High availability: Workloads can use multiple locations to reduce the effect of failures.
  • Global reach: Services can be deployed closer to users around the world.
  • Speed of deployment: Infrastructure can be provisioned without waiting for physical hardware.
  • Variable cost: Organizations can pay for used resources instead of buying all capacity in advance.

Do not confuse scalability with elasticity. Scalability is the ability to support growth by adding resources. Elasticity adds or removes resources in response to changing demand.

AWS Well-Architected Framework

Know the six pillars at a high level:

  1. Operational Excellence
  2. Security
  3. Reliability
  4. Performance Efficiency
  5. Cost Optimization
  6. Sustainability

You do not need to design a full architecture. You should recognize the goal of each pillar. For example, protecting information relates to Security, recovering from failures relates to Reliability, and avoiding unnecessary spending relates to Cost Optimization.

Cloud migration and adoption

Understand why an organization may migrate to AWS and the basic purpose of the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework. AWS CAF helps organizations consider business, people, governance, platform, security, and operations during cloud transformation.

Know that migration methods vary. Data may be transferred across a network, replicated from a database, or moved through an AWS Snow Family device when network transfer is unsuitable.

Cloud economics

Compare fixed costs with variable costs. An on-premises data center may require large hardware purchases, facilities, power, cooling, and maintenance. Cloud services let organizations consume resources as needed and benefit from economies of scale.

Review rightsizing, automation, and licensing options. Rightsizing means selecting resources that fit the workload instead of paying for unnecessary capacity.

Practice goal: Explain why the cloud helps a business and connect a requirement to agility, elasticity, availability, global reach, or cost benefits.

Domain 2: Security and Compliance — 30%

The official Security and Compliance domain covers shared responsibility, governance, compliance, access management, and security services.

AWS shared responsibility model

AWS is responsible for security of the cloud, including the physical facilities, hardware, and underlying infrastructure. The customer is responsible for security in the cloud, including its data, identities, permissions, and many configuration choices.

The exact boundary changes by service:

  • With Amazon EC2, AWS manages physical infrastructure, while the customer manages the guest operating system, patches, applications, and relevant configurations.
  • With Amazon RDS, AWS manages more of the database infrastructure, but the customer still controls data, access, and database settings within the service boundary.
  • With AWS Lambda, AWS manages the servers and runtime infrastructure, while the customer manages function code, permissions, and data.

Practice questions often test who is responsible for a specific task. Read the service type before answering.

Identity and access management

AWS Identity and Access Management controls access to AWS resources. Understand users, groups, roles, and policies at a high level. Follow the principle of least privilege by granting only the permissions needed.

Protect the root user, enable multi-factor authentication, avoid using root for daily work, and do not place access keys in public code. AWS IAM Identity Center supports centralized workforce access, while IAM roles provide temporary permissions for users, applications, or AWS services.

Encryption and compliance

Encryption at rest protects stored data. Encryption in transit protects data moving across a network. AWS Key Management Service helps create and control encryption keys.

AWS Artifact provides access to AWS compliance reports and agreements. Compliance remains a shared activity: AWS provides compliant infrastructure and documentation, while customers must configure and use their workloads according to their own requirements.

Security, monitoring, and governance services

Know the main purpose of frequently tested services:

  • Amazon GuardDuty: Threat detection using AWS data sources.
  • Amazon Inspector: Automated vulnerability management for supported workloads.
  • AWS Security Hub: Central view of security findings and checks.
  • AWS Shield: Protection against distributed denial-of-service attacks.
  • AWS WAF: Filters web requests using rules.
  • Amazon Macie: Discovers and helps protect sensitive data in Amazon S3.
  • AWS CloudTrail: Records AWS API activity.
  • Amazon CloudWatch: Monitors metrics, logs, alarms, and application or resource behavior.
  • AWS Config: Tracks resource configurations and changes.
  • AWS Audit Manager: Helps collect evidence for audits.

Practice goal: Identify whether AWS or the customer owns a task, then choose the access, monitoring, protection, or compliance service that fits.

Domain 3: Cloud Technology and Services — 34%

This is the largest domain. The official Cloud Technology and Services outline covers deployment methods, global infrastructure, compute, databases, networking, storage, AI/ML, analytics, integration, and other service categories.

Ways to access and operate AWS

The AWS Management Console provides a graphical interface. The AWS Command Line Interface allows command-based access. AWS SDKs let applications call AWS services. Infrastructure as code tools such as AWS CloudFormation define repeatable resources in templates.

At CLF-C02 level, know when a one-time manual action differs from a repeatable automated process. You do not need to write commands or templates.

Regions, Availability Zones, and edge locations

An AWS Region is a separate geographic area. Each Region contains multiple Availability Zones. An Availability Zone is one or more data centers with independent infrastructure. Using multiple Availability Zones helps improve availability.

Edge locations place content and services closer to users. Amazon CloudFront uses edge locations to deliver cached content with lower latency. Multiple Regions may be used for disaster recovery, business continuity, lower user latency, or data-residency requirements.

Compute services

  • Amazon EC2: Resizable virtual servers with control over instance configuration.
  • AWS Lambda: Runs code in response to events without managing servers.
  • AWS Fargate: Serverless compute for containers.
  • Amazon ECS: AWS container orchestration service.
  • Amazon EKS: Managed Kubernetes service.
  • AWS Elastic Beanstalk: Deploys and manages supported web applications while handling much of the environment setup.
  • Amazon Lightsail: Simplified virtual servers and related resources for straightforward workloads.

Auto Scaling adjusts capacity, while Elastic Load Balancing distributes incoming traffic across targets.

Database services

  • Amazon RDS: Managed relational databases.
  • Amazon Aurora: AWS relational database compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Amazon DynamoDB: Serverless NoSQL key-value and document database.
  • Amazon ElastiCache: In-memory caching for faster data access.
  • Amazon Neptune: Graph database for highly connected data.
  • Amazon DocumentDB: Document database compatible with MongoDB workloads.

Understand why a managed database can reduce administration compared with running database software directly on EC2.

Networking services

  • Amazon VPC: Logically isolated network for AWS resources.
  • Amazon Route 53: DNS and domain-related routing service.
  • Amazon CloudFront: Content delivery network.
  • AWS Direct Connect: Dedicated private network connection to AWS.
  • AWS VPN: Encrypted connectivity over the internet.
  • Amazon API Gateway: Creates and manages APIs.

Know that security groups control traffic for associated resources and network ACLs operate at the subnet level. Detailed rule configuration is beyond the foundational scope.

Storage services

  • Amazon S3: Object storage for files, backups, data lakes, websites, and many other use cases.
  • Amazon EBS: Block storage commonly attached to EC2 instances.
  • Amazon EFS: Managed shared file storage for Linux workloads.
  • Amazon FSx: Managed file systems for specific technologies and workload needs.
  • S3 Glacier storage classes: Lower-cost options for archive data with different retrieval needs.
  • AWS Storage Gateway: Connects on-premises environments with AWS storage.
  • AWS Backup: Central service for managing backups across supported resources.

Practice matching object, block, file, and archive needs to the correct service type.

AI, machine learning, and analytics

You only need high-level service recognition:

  • Amazon SageMaker AI: Builds, trains, and deploys machine-learning models.
  • Amazon Lex: Builds conversational interfaces.
  • Amazon Kendra: Intelligent enterprise search.
  • Amazon Rekognition: Image and video analysis.
  • Amazon Transcribe: Speech to text.
  • Amazon Translate: Language translation.
  • Amazon Textract: Extracts text and data from documents.
  • Amazon Comprehend: Natural-language processing and text insights.
  • Amazon Athena: Queries supported data in S3 using SQL.
  • Amazon Kinesis: Processes streaming data.
  • AWS Glue: Data integration and ETL.
  • Amazon QuickSight: Business intelligence and visualization.

The current in-scope list also includes Amazon Q. Study service purposes at a basic level rather than detailed AI model configuration.

Application integration and other categories

Amazon SQS provides message queues, Amazon SNS sends messages to subscribers, EventBridge routes events, and Step Functions coordinates workflow steps. Amazon SES sends email, while Amazon Connect provides a cloud contact center. Know the broad business need each service addresses.

Practice goal: Given a simple requirement, identify the AWS service category and select the service whose primary purpose fits best.

Domain 4: Billing, Pricing, and Support — 12%

The official Billing, Pricing, and Support domain covers purchasing options, billing tools, support resources, and AWS partners.

Compute purchasing options

  • On-Demand Instances: Pay for capacity as used, without a long-term commitment.
  • Savings Plans: Commit to a consistent amount of eligible compute usage for reduced prices.
  • Reserved Instances: Provide pricing benefits for eligible instance usage under defined terms; behavior varies by offering.
  • Spot Instances: Use spare EC2 capacity at a discount, but workloads must tolerate interruption.
  • Dedicated Hosts: Physical servers dedicated to one customer, useful for certain compliance or licensing needs.
  • Capacity Reservations: Reserve EC2 capacity in a specific Availability Zone when capacity assurance is required.

The correct choice depends on workload stability, interruption tolerance, commitment, licensing, and capacity needs.

Billing and cost-management tools

  • AWS Pricing Calculator: Estimates the cost of a planned architecture.
  • AWS Cost Explorer: Visualizes and analyzes existing cost and usage.
  • AWS Budgets: Tracks budgets and sends alerts based on configured thresholds.
  • AWS Cost and Usage Reports: Provides detailed cost and usage data.
  • Cost allocation tags: Help organize costs by project, team, department, or another category.
  • AWS Organizations consolidated billing: Combines billing across member accounts and can provide volume-pricing benefits where applicable.

Review data-transfer pricing at a high level. Incoming data transfer is often treated differently from outgoing or inter-Region transfer, but specific prices can change. Use official pricing pages for current values rather than memorizing temporary numbers.

AWS Support and technical resources

Understand the purpose of AWS Support Center, AWS documentation, whitepapers, AWS re, AWS Knowledge Center, AWS Prescriptive Guidance, AWS Health Dashboard, and AWS Trusted Advisor.

The exam guide identifies Developer Support, Business Support, Enterprise On-Ramp Support, and Enterprise Support as support options to recognize. Focus on the type of assistance an organization needs rather than memorizing every response time, because plan features can change.

AWS Marketplace offers third-party software and services. The AWS Partner Network includes organizations such as independent software vendors and system integrators. AWS Professional Services and AWS Solutions Architects can also assist customers in different ways.

Practice goal: Select the correct purchasing model, cost tool, support resource, or partner option for the stated situation.

Important AWS Services for CLF-C02

AWS publishes a current CLF-C02 in-scope services list and notes that it is non-exhaustive and subject to change. Beginners should not try to memorize every product equally. Start with the services that represent the main cloud categories.

CategoryPriority services and concepts
ComputeAmazon EC2, AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, ECS, EKS, Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing
StorageAmazon S3, S3 Glacier, EBS, EFS, FSx, Storage Gateway, AWS Backup
DatabasesAmazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, Neptune, DocumentDB
NetworkingAmazon VPC, Route 53, CloudFront, API Gateway, Direct Connect, AWS VPN
SecurityIAM, IAM Identity Center, KMS, GuardDuty, Inspector, Shield, WAF, Macie, Security Hub, Artifact
Monitoring and governanceCloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, Control Tower, Organizations, Trusted Advisor, Health Dashboard
Cost managementAWS Budgets, Cost Explorer, Pricing Calculator, Cost and Usage Reports, cost allocation tags
Analytics and AIAthena, Kinesis, Glue, QuickSight, SageMaker AI, Lex, Kendra, Rekognition, Amazon Q
IntegrationAmazon SQS, Amazon SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions
MigrationAWS Migration Hub, Application Migration Service, AWS DMS, AWS Snow Family

For each service, learn its main purpose and one or two common use cases. At this level, knowing why a customer would select a service is more useful than memorizing configuration details.

How to Use CLF-C02 Practice Questions Effectively

Practice questions work best when combined with short lessons, official AWS material, and simple console exploration. Use reliable Learning Resources as part of a repeatable study process rather than depending on one final score.

Step 1: Take a short diagnostic test

Answer a mixed set without notes. Record your score by domain and identify the two weakest areas. The result is a starting point, not a judgment.

Step 2: Learn one group of related concepts

Study a small group such as EC2 versus Lambda, S3 versus EBS versus EFS, CloudWatch versus CloudTrail, or Pricing Calculator versus Cost Explorer.

Step 3: Use simple hands-on exploration

You do not need to build a complex system. Helpful activities include:

  • Explore the AWS Management Console and locate common services.
  • Review the Region selector and identify Availability Zones.
  • Create a simple cost estimate with AWS Pricing Calculator.
  • Review a sample IAM policy and identify allowed actions.
  • Compare S3 storage classes on the official product page.
  • View the purpose of CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Health Dashboard.

Use a sandbox account carefully. Enable budget alerts and remove any resources you create so you do not receive unexpected charges.

Step 4: Answer domain-focused questions

After studying a topic, answer related questions and review every explanation. If you guessed correctly, still treat the concept as unfinished.

Step 5: Maintain a comparison sheet

Create a two-column note for commonly confused services. Keep each difference short. For example:

Service AService B
CloudWatch monitors resources and applicationsCloudTrail records AWS API activity
Pricing Calculator estimates planned costsCost Explorer analyzes existing cost and usage
SQS stores messages in a queueSNS publishes messages to subscribers
Shield helps protect against DDoS attacksWAF filters web requests
RDS is relationalDynamoDB is NoSQL

Step 6: Complete a full timed practice test

Use 65 questions and a 90-minute limit. Close your notes, avoid interruptions, and mark difficult items for review. Afterward, study the reasons behind mistakes rather than immediately taking another full test.

A Four-Week CLF-C02 Study Plan

This plan suits many beginners who can study regularly. Increase or reduce the schedule based on your available time and previous experience.

WeekMain focusPractice activity
1Cloud benefits, global infrastructure, Well-Architected Framework, migration, and economicsTake a diagnostic test and answer Domain 1 questions
2Shared responsibility, IAM, MFA, encryption, compliance, governance, and security servicesBuild a security comparison sheet and answer Domain 2 questions
3Compute, storage, databases, networking, analytics, AI, integration, and migration servicesMatch services to use cases and answer Domain 3 questions
4Pricing models, cost tools, support resources, and full reviewAnswer Domain 4 questions and take two new timed mixed-domain tests

Study in short daily sessions if possible. A 30-to-45-minute routine is often easier to maintain than a long session once a week. End each session by explaining one concept without looking at notes.

CLF-C02 Question-Answering Strategies

Find the requirement before selecting a service

Ask what the customer actually needs: storage, compute, monitoring, security, cost estimation, or technical help. Then select the service whose primary purpose matches.

Learn service categories

If you forget an exact detail, knowing the category can help eliminate options. For example, GuardDuty is a security service, Athena is an analytics service, and Route 53 is a networking and DNS service.

Watch for similar service names

CloudWatch and CloudTrail, Shield and WAF, Cost Explorer and Pricing Calculator, SQS and SNS, and EBS and EFS are common comparisons. Review the main difference before exam day.

Use the shared responsibility model carefully

Determine whether the question refers to AWS infrastructure or customer-controlled data, identities, software, and configuration. Then consider whether the service is managed or gives the customer more control.

Avoid answers that are too technical

CLF-C02 tests foundational understanding. If a simple managed service satisfies the requirement, an answer requiring extensive custom administration is often less suitable.

Eliminate clearly wrong options

Remove choices from the wrong service category or those that solve a different problem. Comparing two remaining answers is easier than comparing all four.

Do not leave questions blank

There is no penalty for guessing, while unanswered questions are incorrect. Choose your best answer, flag difficult items, and return if time remains.

Can You Take the CLF-C02 Exam Online?

Yes. AWS offers CLF-C02 through Pearson VUE at testing centers and through online proctoring. For an online exam, you use your own compatible computer in a private room while a proctor monitors your screen and webcam. Communication with the proctor is required.

Review the current AWS scheduling and testing options and run Pearson VUE’s system test on the same computer and internet connection you will use. Prepare acceptable identification, clear your desk, remove prohibited devices, and follow the check-in instructions in your confirmation email.

A testing center may be a better choice if your internet connection is unreliable, your room cannot remain private, or your computer does not meet the requirements. The center provides the computer and on-site check-in assistance.

How to Schedule the CLF-C02 Exam

AWS currently directs candidates to schedule through an AWS Certification Account and Pearson VUE:

  1. Sign in to your AWS Certification Account.
  2. Select the option to schedule a new exam.
  3. Find AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02).
  4. Choose scheduling with Pearson VUE.
  5. Select online proctoring or a testing center.
  6. Choose an available language, date, and time.
  7. Pay the fee or use an eligible voucher.
  8. Read the complete confirmation email and verify your name, identification requirements, location, time zone, and check-in instructions.

According to the current AWS before-testing policy, an appointment can be rescheduled up to 24 hours before its scheduled time and each appointment can be rescheduled only twice. Changes within 24 hours generally are not permitted, and the fee may be forfeited. Verify current terms when scheduling.

CLF-C02 Exam-Day Checklist

For an online exam

  • Run the required system test in advance.
  • Use the same computer, webcam, microphone, and network tested earlier.
  • Close prohibited software and disconnect extra monitors if instructed.

  • Clear the desk and surrounding testing space.
  • Ask others not to enter the room.
  • Begin check-in at the permitted time.

For a testing-center exam

  • Confirm the address and travel time.
  • Arrive according to the instructions in your confirmation email.
  • Bring the required original identification.
  • Store personal belongings as directed.
  • Use the tutorial to understand navigation and the review feature.

The current instructions from AWS and Pearson VUE always take priority over a general checklist.

What Happens After the CLF-C02 Exam?

AWS says exam results are normally available in your AWS Certification Account within five business days, although some may take longer if review is required. If you pass, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is valid for three years.

If you fail, the current AWS after-testing policy requires a 14-calendar-day wait before another attempt. The full registration fee applies to each attempt. Use the waiting period to review domain feedback, study misunderstood comparisons, and answer new practice questions.
